Winter

I had a project up at the Robin's Nest Blog a few days ago and wanted to share it here. These photos were taken during an ice storm we had when we lived up in Maine. It was absolutely gorgeous but we lost power for about 3 days. Thankfully we had a gas fireplace to keep us warm!

Robin's Nest Supplies

Other Supplies
Stencil
Cranberry Ink
Washi Tape
Glimmer Chips

So I started with the Black & White Pine Tree Glitter Cardstock and decided I wanted to add some color to it. I used a tiny circle stencil and some cranberry ink and just randomly placed the stencil across the middle of the paper.

I then double matted the photos using both the Red Classic Swirl Glitter Cardstock and the Robins Egg Glitter Cardstock. I also added some of the white Ace of Diamond Dew Drops, one in each corner of the matted photos.

I decided I wanted even more color behind the photos so I added some strips of red and white polka dot washi tape behind them. I also added some red and white striped washi tape in both the top and bottom right corners. Over the washi tape in the top right corner I added several banners using the Red Classic Swirl Glitter Cardstock and the Robins Egg Glitter Cardstock. I also added a few snowflake glimmer chips on top of the banners using some of the Best Glue Ever by ScraPerfect.

The title was done using 2 completely different types of embellishments. I used the back side of one of the Rosy Cards and fussy cut it out for the beginning of the title. I also inked the edges with the cranberry ink.

The second part of the title was from the Crimson Winter Stickers. I wanted to pop them up so I patted the backs of the Winter letter stickers with the Perfect Crafting Pouch by ScraPerfect to remove the stickiness. I also inked the edges with some more of the cranberry ink.

The journaling block also came from the Crimson Winter Stickers and again I used the Perfect Crafting Pouch by ScraPerfect  to remove the adhesive backing and popped that up as well.

For the final touch I added some snowflakes from the Winter Snowflakes Glitter Chipboard collection. I also added a blue dew drop from the Primary Dew Drops collection to each of the snowflakes. And again I used some of the Best Glue Ever by ScraPerfect. That glue is amazing....you only need to use a tiny bit of it and it holds so strong!

Crafting with my Granddaughters

I've got a bit of a different post today. My granddaughters were here last week and we spent an afternoon crafting. They are 9 and 6 and I was pretty impressed with what they made....though I may be a little biased! lol They even came up with their own ideas on how to make their projects.

The Christmas tree was made by Cadence who is 9 years old. She was going to draw all the scalloped circles and then cut them out until I suggested I use my Cricut to cut them out. She had never seen a Cricut before but she picked up how to use it immediately and pushed me out of the way. She used 2 different colors of green paper and cut 8 circles out of each color and gradually reduced the size. (I think she started at 4 inches and reduced it by a 1/2 inch each time all the way down to a 1/2 inch for the last circle.) For the base she used an empty toilet paper roll, cut it in half and wrapped it in Washi tape. She cut out a red circle for the base and then found this doily cut, cut it using white cardstock and layered it on top of the red circle. For the trunk of the tree she used a wooden skewer and glued it to the base with the Best Glue Ever and then added all the scalloped circles. Of course they didn't stay separated so I suggested she add some Best Glue Ever along the skewer under each circle. Thank goodness for the No Clog Tip which made it so easy to get in between the layers. It also kept her from using too much glue since she didn't believe me when I told her she didn't need to use very much of the glue.

She then decorated it using adhesive backed gems and glued a star to the top of the skewer using the Best Glue Ever. She was sure it wouldn't stick but I proved her wrong! That was as far as she got before they had to leave and she had no room to pack it in her luggage so I promised to mail it to her. I knew she wanted to make some presents for underneath the tree so I went ahead and made them for her....I know she'll be surprised.

Here's a good view of the finished tree.

My other granddaughter, Brylie, who is 6 years old, wanted to make a Santa. On her own, while I was helping Cadence with the Cricut, she took the other half of the toilet paper roll and wrapped it in red paper and drew a black belt around it. For the face I used my Cricut and gave her all the pieces and she glued them all together on her own using the Best Glue Ever.  She did a great job and didn't use a ton of glue like her sister did. She was so proud of herself and ran right out and put it on our Christmas tree. She left it here so we could mail it to her and I decided to add the belt buckle, the pompom and some eyes for her. Not sure what those cuts along the bottom are but she insisted they be there. lol

Then, of course, we had to clean up their hands, the floor of my scraproom and my desk. Naturally I grabbed my Best Cleaner Ever and went to town. I was really worried about my wood floor but it cleaned up perfectly! And since the Best Cleaner Ever is non-toxic I wasn't worried about using it on my granddaughters hands.

And now for my quick project. I had picked up several small gifts for the girls like a couple of stamp and ink sets (mom is gonna love me), stickers, small punch, lip gloss and lotion. Instead of wrapping them individually I grabbed a couple of glossy white gift bags and decided to decorate them as snowmen. I cut out the noses, scarves and all the black circles on my Cricut and glued them to the glossy white bags with the Best Glue Ever and it held immediately. Just love that glue....it works on everything! For the gift tags I took some adhesive backed tags and tapped the Perfect Crafting Pouch on the back to remove the stickiness, punched a hole in them and tied them to the handles. Quick and easy gift bags!

So it just goes to show that these ScraPerfect products are great for crafting with kids. I have to say the Best Cleaner Ever was a lifesaver. I didn't worry about them getting glue all over my desk or themselves because I knew it would clean right up easily. And I was so happy when the Best Cleaner Ever cleaned up my wood floors too!

Vintage Valentine

I had a Vintage Valentine project up at The Robin's Nest a few days ago and wanted to share it here with you. I'm not sure if I'll turn this into a card or just use it as a Valentine's Day decoration.

Robin's Nest Products Used

Other Products Used

Black Ink
Cheese Cloth
Gold Mist

I started by layering the Red Glitter Paisley Cardstock and the Classic Roses Cardstock. I also inked the edges of the Classic Roses Cardstock with some black ink. I took some white cheese cloth and to get it to look old I sprayed it with some gold mist. It turned out perfect. I also sprayed some of the gold mist on the  Chipboard Glitter Heart Swirls to tone down the white. I placed the cheese cloth on top of the cardstock and then added the Chipboard Glitter Heart Swirls and the Orange Crush Cards to the top of the cheese cloth. I found the picture of the Victorian lady on Pinterest and printed it out cut it down and inked the edges with black ink. I layered that on top of the Orange Crush Card

I took the rose from the Rosy Cards and fussy cut it out and tucked it along side the photo and added the  Heart Dew Drop to the corner of the photo using the Best Glue Ever from ScraPerfect. It's just amazing how little you need and it doesn't show through the dew drops.

I added the Red Ace of Diamonds Dew Drops along with the Poinsettia Dew Drops to two of the corners of the project using some more of the Best Glue Ever from ScraPerfect and the Embellie Gellie from ScraPerfect. That tool makes it so easy to place those tiny little dew drops right where you want them.

And here's another look at my final project.

Christmas 2013

Here's a layout I did for the Robin's Nest Blog that I wanted to share her with you.  The photo is a few years old but I guess it's better scrapped late than never.

Robin's Nest Products

Other Products

Ribbon
Stickers
Cricut Die Cuts
Pearl Mist
White Pen

To start I matted the photo on some of the Red Rope Glitter Cardstock and the Hunter Green with Gold Glitter Cardstock and layered it all on top of some of the Gold Classic Swirl Glitter Cardstock.

With my Cricut I cut out the poinsettia flowers and the holly leaves. I added some detail to the flowers with a white pen and then sprayed them with some pearl mist to give them a little sparkle. And of course I had to add some Metallic Gold Dew Drops to the flowers and some Christmas Dew Drops to the holly leaves. I also popped up the top layer of the flower and just the leafy part of the holly to give the page some dimension.

I added some Christmas burlap ribbon to the top and bottom of the layout and some gold stickers that I've had in my stash for many years. I never realized how pretty they were til I placed them on this layout.

I decided to go with a simple title and used the word Christmas from the Glitter Word Titles.

So does this layout get you in the mood for Christmas? It sure does for me!

Christmas Treat Bags

I've got a Christmas treat bag tutorial up today at the ScraPerfect Blog. I hope you'll stop by and check it out. Be sure and leave a comment if you do! I do a lot of baking around the holidays and am always looking for creative ways to wrap them up for little gifts.

I used two different bags here. The left one is a small plastic bag with a twist tie closure at the top. The right one is a small paper bag that I added red paper to the front and the black belt was cut on my Cricut.

I used some plain old wooden clothespins, took them apart and colored them with a red sharpie. I figured that would be a lot easier not to mention quicker than trying to paint them.

Once I put them back together I was ready to start on the hats.

These are all the supplies I needed to make the Santa Hats.

I decided to use glitter cardstock and we all know how difficult it is to get anything to stick to it. I used the Best Glue Ever and it worked like a charm! I probably used more than I needed but I wanted to be sure it really held up since most of these treat bags will be going to kids. So, I glued the white strips to the bottom of the red triangles and then glued some smaller pom poms to one of the white strips and a bigger pom pom to the top of the triangle using the Best Glue Ever. I didn't add pom poms to both of the triangles but I suppose you could if you wanted to. Then I glued the front of the hat to one side of the clothespin and the back (the plain one) to the other side of the clothespin.

Here you can see how it opens so you can insert the top of the treat bag.

Quick and easy and pretty darn cute!

Change Can Be Beautiful

Hello scrappy friends! There's a challenge up at the ScraPerfect blog today and it's about making your own borders. You can't use any machine or stitching to make your borders. Here's my entry for the challenge.

I love this photo of my granddaughters looking out over the water at the colorful fall foliage so I decided to use leaves as my border. I bought a small bag of fabric leaves at Michaels and then just glued them down using The Best Glue Ever from ScraPerfect. It worked so well. You only need a tiny bit of glue and it really holds the fabric leaves well. I love how the border turned out!

Debossed Christmas Card

I've got a blog post up at ScraPerfect today. I was playing around with my embossing folders one day and tried a new technique. I saw something similar to this using metal dies on Jennifer McGuire Ink's Facebook page. I don't have many Christmas dies so I decided to try the same technique with embossing folders.

I took an Anna Griffin wreath embossing folder and first wiped it clean using the Perfect Cleaning Cloth. Then I tapped the inside of the embossing folder with the Perfect Crafting Pouch. I took my embossing ink pad and swiped it on the side of the folder with the most raised edges and placed my paper in it being careful not to let it slide. Ran it through my Cuttlebug and carefully removed the paper and sprinkled the debossed side with clear embossing powder and heat set it with my heat gun. It came out beautifully! All the debossed areas really pop and it looks like the wreath is laying on top of the paper.
To give it some sparkle I took my Wink of Stella Clear pen and just brushed it on the ribbon and then used a silver Wink of Stella pen to outline the pine cones in the center of the bow. Then added some candy cane Stickles to the berries on the wreath.
I layered it on some red and white striped paper and rounded all the edges along with the card base.
I love how this came out!

Christmas Card Set

I recently had a project up at The Robin's Nest Blog and wanted to share it with you. I've been busy making Christmas cards the last couple of weeks and I was asked to make a small set of cards to be donated to one of the local nursing homes in the area.

Robin's Nest Products

Other products used
Cricut
Cuttlebug and Embossing Folders
Stamps, Inks and Embossing Powder

To start I placed 4.25" x 5.5" pieces of the Hunter Green with Gold Glitter Cardstock and Winter Snowflakes Cardstock on the card fronts. I then designed the white die cuts using my Gypsy and Cricut. I used both the negative and positive parts of the die cuts on each of the cards. I attached the negative part on top of the cards. I popped up the positive parts on top of the negatives and offset them a bit to give the cards even more dimension.

As you can see from the close up, I embossed the trees with my Cuttlebug which just made them stand out more. I also stamped and embossed different  sentiments on each card.

And of course they needed a little sparkle so I added some Metallic Gold Dew Drops and Silver Bells Dew Drops to the tops of the negative tree die cuts.

These were fun and easy cards to make and I know they'll be going to someone who can really use them. I was honored to be asked to do this and I'm thinking I just might make some more to donate.

I've got a layout up at the ScraPerfect blog today that I would like to share with you. It's a fall layout, my favorite kind to do since this is my favorite time of year.

I also tried something new for me. I had bought these little wooden leaves and I thought they would look really pretty if I added some glitter  or embossing powder to them. So I gathered my supplies and couldn't find my embossing stamp pad.....so I decided to try using the Best Glue Ever and it worked just as well as the embossing ink. I just lightly spread some of the Best Glue Ever over the wooden leaves, sprinkled the embossing powder and used my heat gun to set it. It worked perfectly. I did the green and orange leaves that way.

For the glittered leaves, I used a bit more glue and then really covered the leaves with the glitter.

I shook off the excess glitter and then took a piece of plastic packaging and pressed the glitter down into the glue. Let it dry and here are the results close up.

That photo doesn't do them justice. They came out very nice, but I just couldn't get a good photo of them.  Then I set them aside to dry and set about assembling my layout. And as you can imagine, my fingers were quite a sticky glittery mess so I just sprayed some of the Best Cleaner Ever on them and everything came right off. I love that stuff!

Normally my fall pages are mostly orange and browns but since all the flowers in the photo were pink I added the big pink plaid banner behind the photo to tie it all in. I cut some strips of dark cork into banners and layered the blue and copper paper on top of them. I also added a light coat of gesso behind the photo and sprinkled the background with some coffee colored mist. I even added a journaling  card, which is unusual for me, and matted that with the same colored papers as I matted the photo with. To top it all off, I then added the leaves I had made for a bit of sparkle.

Go For It

I've got a challenge up at the Mini Crop going on at Creative Inspiration. Our theme this month is banners, flags, pennants..... etc. My challenge is to use flags on your layout.

These are my two granddaughters who are both cheerleaders.  I love watching them cheer and dance.
My flags here are fussy cut from some Cheerleading paper I've had forever. I took a wooden skewer and attached the cuts and instant flags. Couldn't be easier!

Please stop by our forum and play along with some of our mini crop challenges or maybe even try our daily challenges. Lots of fun and interesting challenges going on at Creative Inspiration.
